Pop up exhibition at Military History Live 2017

Leicester’s 3rd ‘Military History Live’ event took place on Saturday 24th June 10am-4pm at Leicester Adult Education (Belvoir Street),  an opportunity to explore the conflicts from the past that shape our world today. Covering the last 500 years, ‘Military History Live 2017’ provided an opportunity to discover Leicester’s involvement in these conflicts, the part played by its soldiers and those left behind on the home front. The event fell on Armed forces day where a number of events were taking place throughout the city.

The Sikh Museum Initiative was in attendance with their Anglo Sikh Wars pop up exhibition. Many visitors came to the stall to know more about the conflict between the East India Company and the Sikh Empire. The 3d touch screen was well received by participants who appreciated the work undertaken to preserve Sikh heritage. The ladies from the Ramgharia Gurdwara, Leicester were also in attendance showing the rich tapestries they had undertaken related to conflict in the World Wars.

Military artist Peter Archer presented portraits of the Anglo Sikh Wars to the Sikh Museum Initiative. A discussion took place on the history related to the print undertaken by Peter and a follow up post will be posted related to the Battle of Ferozeshah.

Another highlight of the day was a Cafe conversation on the Anglo Sikh Wars with SMI’s Gurinder Singh Mann and military author Christopher Brice. The conversation took place on the Anglo Sikh Wars and the role of Lord Gough. The subject of a new book by Helion Publishers.
