BBC Antiques Roadtrip
The Sikh Museum Initiative was filmed for the popular BBC Celebrity Antiques Roadtrip programme.
The Sikh Museum Initiative formulated the Anglo Sikh Wars project this year to shed light on the highly contested wars between the Sikh Empire and the East India Company from 1845-1849. The exhibition has led to considerable interest not just locally and nationally but, it has also received interest across the world.
As a result, the Anglo Sikh Wars project was featured on Wednesday 13th December in the popular TV series Antiques Road Trip programme, this is the celebrity version and saw Felicity Montague get an insight into the project. Felicity has appeared featured in films like Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (2013) and Dad’s Army (2016) as well as appearing in the TV series Doc Martin (2014-2015). She is daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel John Drogo Montagu (1916-2013) who served in the Punjab as Lt-Col, 2nd Punjab Regiment, Indian Army.
They filmed our Anglo Sikh Wars pop up exhibition as well as getting an understanding of the different weapons (shastars) used by the Sikhs from historian and author Gurinder Singh Mann. Antiques expert-James Braxton and actress Felicity Montague undertook the questions with the SMI. The Battle of Ferozeshah was alluded to where the East India Company was nearly defeated as well how the Sikh Army was defeated at the battle of Gujarat in 1849.
